oooh check me out i'm a news update: we are sadly not exchanging right now.  we don't even have a fully functional address right now. we'll figure things out. we can't swear, we can only hope.

A long, long time ago, in a little town called Los Angeles, yours truly decided it was a shame people didn’t take the time to really make mixtapes anymore (apparently they barely take the time to put a website up). But by golly, mixes are by far one of the coolest ways to learn about new music or to reacquaint yourself with some old favorites so we are here to make sure you actually take the time to do so. Kind of like your mom making sure you’ve had your Flintstone’s vitamin before leaving for school in the morning (but in a non-‘let me wipe that dried drool off your face before you get out of the car’ kind of way). At the end of the day we’re just trying to bring people (more specifically dorks) together who are equally crazy about music. We want this to be a personal experience, a little different for everyone involved. Even though we’re reaching out to you online, we won’t resign to posting playlists online because chances are you won’t look at it, let alone put the suggested mix together. We’re going old school – the United States Postal Service. We are the trusty go betweens who’ll mail your mix to a lucky receiver and mail you a mix from a hopeless sender. We hope you open the mail and get giddy like a schoolgirl when your mix arrives. We want you to rush to your stereo and pop that sucka in (or upload it to your iPod, whatever floats your boat). Ultimately we just want you to say yay.

i know but still describes our somewhat conflicting feelings about doing this
- I know everyone does everything online…
- I know the mail’s a lot slower than your DSL…
- I know it’ll cost us some money…
- I know there’s plenty of work that needs to get done…

But still, we’re willing to give it a shot. We’ll have fun. Join in (it’s not a cult – promise).

oooh check me out i'm a news update: our address is changing. mail your mixes to suite 400, not 305!! deadlines are now the first of each month (that means your mixes should get to us by the 1st).

It’s all pretty simple really, just burn a mix cd and have fun with it. The whole point is to experiment so we’re not going to make you stick to a genre. Throw together something you like and think others would like too. Mail it to us so that we can go over the submissions and work our magic (i.e. we’ll mail it to another participant). Privacy’s pretty important so we’re only giving out your first name and an email address if you provide us with one. We’ve included a few guidelines to avoid being flooded with hate mail:

1. include a tracklist, no need to get fancy, title and artist will do. There’s nothing worse than hearing an amazing song and not being able to figure out what the hell that was.

2. have a decent number of songs on your mix. No one wants to get a mix with 3 songs on it and a blank cd is going to cost you the same regardless of how much space you use up.

3. on that same note, try to keep repeat artists to a minimum (but by all means, go for those 3 Smiths tracks if it’ll just absolutely make the mix).

4. get it in by the 1st of the month, every month!

To submit, please send your mix in an envelope to:

i know but still

1680 N. Vine Suite 400

Hollywood, CA 90028

*Be aware of postage when you are sending - just be sure to include two stamps so we can mail you a mix. We recommend non-padded envelopes and cds in paper sleeves to reduce your cost.*

Feel free to include your name/email address on your tracklisting if you wish your reciever to have a means of contacting you.

Dream a good one tonight:
